My Plant Life with Alexis Black

My Plant Life with Alexis Black

Tell us who you are and what you do.

My name is Alexis, I am a world traveler, content creator and confidence coach. I help women release self-doubt and self-sabotage so they can show up confidently and walk in their purpose through my conscious travel content and 1:1 coaching.

Tell us about some of your favorite plants. How do you incorporate them into your life?

During the pandemic I really struggled with not being able to go outside. I saw a few of my fellow IG friends buy plants and decided to give it a try. I bought a lily plant, pothos, coleus and ivy plant. I’ve really felt the difference in the energy in my room and feel at peace.

I’ve always cooked with fresh herbs, coriander, bay leaf, parsley, oregano, basil and thyme when I make my delicious lentil soup. Ahh so delicious, the fresh herbs really make a difference.

Tell us your philosophy on “wellness” and what it means to you.

Wellness for me is peace of mind. Mind, body, and spirit. I truly believe they all come together to create harmony in every one of us. When one area is off balance the other also takes a toll; so I do my best to maintain balance in all areas.

Do you have any sustainable practices? If so, please share!

Definitely. You could call me a label freak as I’m always studying every label before I buy. Household products, food, and even products I put on my body and hair, I make sure are the best for myself and the environment. I prefer to buy local from farmer’s markets and skin care products from friends who make small batch lotions, candles etc.

What’s one thing you do to keep your immune system strong and resilient?

First thing every morning, I freshly juice celery, lemon and ginger daily. After my morning juice I have a glass of water with oil of oregano, chlorophyll, and a female balance oil I get from my local market.

How have you been handling things since the pandemic began? Do you have any tips for staying sane during this time?

I have pretty much maintained my same rituals during the pandemic as I did before. Burning sage or palo santo during my morning routine, diffusing lavender or eucalyptus throughout the day or evening when I’m feeling stressed and definitely in home yoga. Since our emotions are held in our gut and hips, yoga has helped me release that tension, so I try to practice as much as I can.

What’s the thing you’re looking forward to most once the stay at home order has been lifted?

Traveling! Which (don’t judge) I’ve already started to do. I have made the decision that it’s best for me to maintain my sanity, however, I take all precautions necessary as I always have, to avoid getting infected. I’ve tested, maintained my healthy diet and social distance as much as possible. I plan to maintain those precautions going forward.

Your go-to easy recipe?

Lentil soup! I love lentil soup. I honestly can eat it anytime of the year. Simple brown lentils I purchase from Trader Joe’s with vegetable stock, coriander, cumin, parsley, oregano, bay leaf, basil, salt, pepper, garlic, leeks, carrots, and green onion. YUM! Thank me later. It’s literally done in like 20 minutes.

Your favorite place to travel and why.

Whew I love Spain. The food is amazing! I come from a caribbean background and I learned a whole lot about Spain and the relation to the culture, cuisine and it’s just such a beautiful country. I plan to visit again soon. If you’re considering visiting, make sure to checkout Barcelona, Sevilla and Granada.

What’s one thing people might be surprised to learn about you?

I really like my own space. I’m super friendly, silly, maybe even the life of the party when I’m with friends, but I truly enjoy my alone time to recharge. I enjoy my company so I mostly travel solo.
