Product Formulation & Safety

Plant-based tonics are synergistic blends of high volume of plant materials brewed in water and finished with citrus and natural sweetener. Our formulas are based on positive results over many years of private clinical practice.

All of our tonics are made with water filtered through a reverse osmosis process.

All of our tonics are caffeine-free with the exception of our Japanese Matcha tonic, which contains ceremonial grade matcha. Unlike coffee, matcha contains an amino acid that provides a smooth and steady boost of energy, rather than the spike and crash coffee tends to result in.

Yes! They are.

Zero. Our Tonics are 100% cholesterol-free.

Yes, all the herbs we use in our drinks are GRAS (Generally Recognized as Safe). Generally recognized as safe (GRAS) is an American Food and Drug Administration (FDA) designation that a chemical or substance added to food is considered safe by experts and so is exempt from the usual Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FFDCA) food additive tolerance requirements.

Yes, they are safe for kids and beneficial for them too. Kids love the fresh, juicy flavors, and tonics are a great way to get kids the nourishment their growing bodies need.

Our tonics are designed for all healthy people. Should you be pregnant or breastfeeding, incorporating our tonics will only be positive! We always recommend that you consult your health care professional if you have any questions about whether or not our drinks are right for you.

Our tonics are safe for tree-nut allergies, but they are packaged in a shared facility. There is protocol within the facility that, when using any of the eight allergens, an extra cleaning and sanitizing step is required on machinery.

While we don't use actual sugar in our herbal tonics, we do sweeten them with monk fruit and erythritol to give them a delicious taste from natural sources. Erythritol is a naturally-occurring sugar alcohol that studies have shown to have no effect on glucose or insulin levels. However, for those in which sugar intake is a concern, we recommend checking with their physician before changing or adding Goldthread to their diets.

The short answer is yes and no! The longer answer is that yes, the herbs in our tonics are all organic. With our mission of supporting as many small, independent farmers and growers as we possibly can, some of the ingredients we purchase are not certified organic. This simply means they can’t afford an organic certification at the moment. However, many of them farm with organic practices and often exceed the organic farming standards! As we continue to develop our supply chain in accordance with our values, we will use the plants grown by these farms more and more. We are weighing out the benefit of getting an organic certification for our tonics while making sure we can continue supporting small farmers around the world.

Our drinks are not raw. Each batch is hand brewed to draw out the most vital constituents of dried plant material we can deliver. Plant-based tonics should not be confused with raw fruit and vegetable juices, though they are often even more nutritious and beneficial to the body than those healthy drinks.

All of our drinks are vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, and non-GMO. We are working on our non-GMO certification and will keep you updated as we move the process along.

None of our drinks contain sugar or artificial sweeteners. We only use a small amount of monk fruit sweetener in each drink for sweetness. You can get more information on our monk fruit sweetener here.

Erythritol is a sugar alcohol that exists naturally in many plants, such as grapes and mushrooms, and in fermented foods like cheese, wine, and beer. It is produced through a natural fermentation process, and it does not cause dental cavities or contribute to tooth decay since mouth bacteria can’t metabolize it. Erythritol has about 65–75% of the sweetness of sugar. Erythritol is the only sugar alcohol produced through fermentation.

Yes, it is safe for people with corn intolerance, sensitivities, or allergies because it contains no corn proteins that may trigger allergic reactions. One hundred percent of corn protein is eliminated during the fermentation process used to create Erythritol.

The tonics use a zero calorie sweetener made from a blend of monk fruit and erythritol. These sweeteners have a carb count, but they are not absorbed by the body, and so they are not caloric.

Monk fruit is a medicinal plant with a sweet flavor, similar to stevia, and erythritol is a naturally occurring sugar alcohol found in grapes, corn, pears and some other fruits and veggies.

Lakanto, one of our suppliers, has some good information about this on their website: “Erythritol is different from other sugar alcohols because it is made from non-GMO corn which has been fermented. Erythritol causes less digestive stress than other sugar alcohols because it is absorbed into the bloodstream and excreted in the urine, instead of going through the colon for excretion. As a result there are also zero calories.”

It is made from Erythritol, a sugar alcohol made from fermented glucose from certified non-GMO corn and high-purity Monk fruit (Luo Han Guo) extract. It contains no flavors, colors, preservatives, or additives of any kind.

Monk fruit or Luo Han Guo (Siraitia Grosvenorii) is a rare perennial plant cultivated mainly in the mountains of the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region in China. Unlike most fruits, whose sweetness comes from fructose, Monk fruit’s sweetness comes from natural mogrosides that are 300 times sweeter than sugar. Modern research shows that Monk fruit extract does not elevate blood sugar or insulin.

It is the only sweetener on the market that successfully combines Erythritol with Monk fruit—a prized Chinese medicinal fruit. It also lacks the burnt taste often associated with Monk fruit-based sweeteners.

Yes, it is Kosher certified by Kosher Check.

Yes! It is Non-GMO Project Verified.

Yes, it has been sold in Japan for over fifteen years and has an excellent safety record. No adverse reactions have ever been reported. In the US, it has GRAS (Generally Recognized as Safe) status.

Our Japanese Matcha tonic contains about 1/t tsp of matcha powder, which comes out to roughly 70mgs of caffeine. A standard 8oz cup of black coffee contains about 95 mg of caffeine.

There are 2,500 to 3,000 milligrams of turmeric in Turmeric Radiance. The effects of Turmeric Radiance are not entirely based on turmeric, it's about the supporting synergy from the other 10 herbs and spices in the blend that are potently active and complement it to get an overall delicious and beneficial effect.

Our tonics are not meant to be a meal replacement. Our bottles are one serving size, so they are typically meant to be enjoyed in one sitting, but they can also easily be consumed throughout the day, just remember to refrigerate after opening.

Storage & Refrigeration

The shelf life of our drinks is up to one year, as long as they are unopened. Once you open the bottle, it needs to be refrigerated if you plan to finish it at a later date. The benefits of our tonics are not lost over time, but don’t wait to enjoy yours for the full flavor experience.

We recommend that you enjoy our plant-based tonics and shots cold. An unopened bottle of Goldthread doesn’t require refrigeration. Refrigerate after opening.
